Capital Strategy Workshop

Fundraising is hard. A slick pitch deck and a confident story is seldom enough, even in the best of times. And we are not in the best of times.

This interactive workshop dives into the key decisions every founder must make in order to run an efficient fundraising process and maximize their chances for success -- when to raise, who to raise from, how much to raise, and at what valuation. We will also explore how investors think and the essence of investor diligence.

This workshop begins with an overview of the key elements of a cogent fundraise. The second half is a Q&A for founders to raise specific questions about their own fundraising. We limit the number of attendees and allocate time between participating founders to ensure everyone gets some dedicated time.

Investor panel of 3 - 5 investors will rate the pitch on a scale of 1 to 5 and provide up to 10 mins of constructive and interactive feedback.
No overt networking in the program.

Venture Breakfast is the straightest line to relationships for founders and investors. Whether it's one table or one room, breaking bread, early in the morning, among peers, is a remarkable way to connect with others -- rapport is immediate, the conversations are intimate and the connections are real.

The host for this event will be our Startup Haven's founder, Bob Crimmins.

Here are a few things to know:

This event is by invitation only. Please do not bring uninvited guests. If you want to bring a co-founder or another founder, please contact us first so we can be sure to have enough seating.
This is not a pitch event. If you are fundraising and there are investors in attendance, do not attempt to pitch them at the event. The purpose of this event is to build relationships and to solve problems. Any investor who gets to know you personally will learn about your startup and will seek to learn more if they have an interest.
This event is participatory. Everyone in attendance will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and share a few words about what their startup does. Everyone is also encouraged to make an ask or an offer (or both).

About Startup Haven

Startup Haven was founded in 2006 by Bob Crimmins, a 4x-founder turned investor. Startup Haven Ventures is a pre-seed venture capital fund. In addition to direct investments, the Fund also invests through the Startup Haven accelerator program. The sole mission of Startup Haven is to help build relationships between founders and investors. There are currently 2,300 founder and investor members. Membership is free but there are additional, fully optional programs available for a modest cost.

In these interactive sessions, up to five Startup Haven company founders will present their next strategic milestone for an exploration of its cogency -- i.e., is it the right milestone? Would investors agree? What does the milestone unlock, what needs to be true in order to reach it, and what assumptions underlie it? We limit the number of attendees and allocate time between participating founders to ensure everyone gets some dedicated time.

We will use the principles used in the GroundWork Growth methodology, the curriculum taught in the Startup Haven Accelerator program.

Each of the selected companies will have 3 minutes to present detail and context on the milestone they want to evaluate. Experienced founders and investors with knowledge of the GroundWork Growth methodology will help the founder explore the cogency of their milestone.

All members should arrive ready to present if time permits. If you are not selected for the current session, we hope you'll still consider staying to listen. It can be very helpful to listen to other founders talk through the challenges and opportunities they face. Each session will begin with a high-level overview of the GroundWork Growth Methodology.
